Objectives

The work carried out by MarViva in terms of protection of marine resources is based on three main objectives:

1. Promotion of the creation of new Marine Protected Areas and extension of existing ones in the

Tropical Eastern Pacific from a functional ecosystem perspective.

2. Encouragement of sustainable use of marine and coastal resources by means of awareness

campaigns, promotion of sustainable fishing practices and development of economic alternatives

for coastal communities.

3. Joint effort made with governments in the region in the control and surveillance of Marine

Protected Areas, lending legal and technical support to create or modify public environmental

regulations and policies and ensuring enforcement of legislation currently in effect.
