“REUSING

PLASTIC WITH

RUBEN BLADES”

April 19, 2021. As part of the strategies to raise public awareness about the problem of excessive consumption  of disposable plastics, the MarViva Foundation launches a new campaign, “Reusing Plastic”, taking advantage of the clear message of one of the classics of the artist Rubén Blades.

CHAO

DISPOSABLE

PLASTIC

April 19, 2021. The regional campaign #ChaoPlásticoDesechable seeks to change consumption habits, reduce the use and consumption of single-use plastic bottles, inform and raise awareness about the impact of disposable plastic on marine and coastal environments, as well as debunk myths and misperceptions about waste treatment and recycling.

TRAWLING SWEEPS EVERYTHING

Costa Rica

This campaign urges Costa Ricans to come together to demand that congress should legislate in a responsible way against the restoration of trawling, since coastal areas require productive alternatives that allow social and economic development, without compromising the sustainability of marine and fishing resources.

Many of the economic activities in coastal areas depend on the health of the oceans. So, we urge citizens to sign the petition “No to the reinstatement of trawling in Costa Rica”.

RESPONSIBLE

CONSUMPTION

REGIONAL

This campaign promotes the practice of responsible consumption of seafood, to promote better management and sustainability of fishery resources. MarViva recommends to consumers that each time they go to buy a fishery product, they should have adequate information to make a good purchase decision, such as about the size of the fish appropriate for consumption, guaranteeing that they have reached their adult stage, and about which species are in danger of extinction.

NO TO

ILLEGAL FISHING

REGIONAL

This campaign seeks to create awareness about the fight against illegal fishing and the responsible consumption of fishery products, with the messages and designs published by MarViva in its social networks and grouped under the label #Noalapescailegal. It is vital to act now; educate ourselves and demand information from the authorities; and strengthen controls at ports, improve traceability systems for fishery products and adopt legal tools to combat illegal fishing in the region.

PANAMA

PROTECTS ITS

SHARKS

PANAMÁ

This campaign has different educational pieces in which you can see messages such as “healthy oceans need sharks”, “sharks are worth more alive than dead” and “there are other fish in the sea”, all aimed at adding multiple sectors of Panamanian society to the efforts for the conservation of these species.

 NATURAL

HERITAGE OF THE

STATE

COSTA RICA

This campaign seeks to sensitize the population about the importance of conserving and restoring the lands classified as Natural Heritage of the State, which not only responds to protected wild areas, but also to territories declared inalienable, properties registered in the name of the state or any of its institutions, including municipalities, turning them into demanial assets. The Maritime Terrestrial Zone is one of these spaces, and on the periphery of the Térraba-Sierpe National Wetland, an important step has been taken toward its management.
