RESPONSIBLE

CONSUMTION

Traffic light guide for the responsible consumption of sea fish.

The application was developed by MarViva for the markets of Costa Rica, Panama and Colombia, with the purpose of guiding users on the responsible use of fish, offering lists of species of commercial importance, whose capture, commercialization and consumption should imitate the operation of a traffic light: green (go), yellow (caution) and red (stop).

The application also seeks to diversify consumption habits, thereby trying to reduce fishing pressure on those species with the greatest demand in the markets. This tool uses information based on IUCN threat categories, as well as resilience and vulnerability (Fishbase) to establish categories of consumption: strongly recommended, recommended, acceptable, acceptable with reservations and not recommended. The search for species can be done by common or scientific name, displaying a detailed technical file for each species, including a photograph of the fish and its distribution map in the region.
